Ordinarily, I would not suggest judging a book by its cover. But judge this book by its cover. Looks like an adult high fantasy, doesn’t it? That’s because it really could be an adult high fantasy. There’s a smidgen of teenage angst and stubbornness because the main characters are teenagers, but that’s also true of other fantasy books featuring young adults. The story is incredible, with lots of complications and twists and turns. The characters are all well-developed, even though there are so many of them. This book is great for fans of Poison Study by Maria Snyder or The Prince of Shadow by Curt Benjamin. On a side note, Morgan Rhodes is Michelle Rowen. I’m glad I didn’t know that going in. Although I love Michelle Rowen, her adult paranormals are light and funny. I wouldn’t have pictured her pulling off a high fantasy. She did, and with honors.
